Masterpieces of Mankind

An exciting and thrilling voyage of discovery around the globe: The Intangible Heritage

There is more to human culture than splendid palaces, the pyramids, medieval towns or castles! A great part of the rich cultural heritage of humanity is especially vulnerable: Intangible and orally transmitted cultural expressions such as ancient sacred rituals, impressive dances and theatre or handicraft knowledge and techniques. UNESCO has proclaimed 47 of the world's most remarkable examples of this oral and intangible heritage. In 2005 the 3rd proclamation will put even more "Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" under special protection.

Filmhouse is producing a series of TV documentaries in high definition resolution featuring the Masterpieces. It will highlight the incredible diversity of human culture. With its well-balanced mixture of information and entertainment this format is aimed at a large scale public. "Masterpieces of Mankind" embarks on a search for the universal language of culture and discovers the most beautiful places and extraordinary people with impressive abilities and knowledge.
